I recently took the reedplates from a very nice playing Special 20 and put them on a Rocket comb. The harp became very difficult to play. The reeds were gapped pretty close so I opened them up a bit and now it plays just fine. Is this because of the larger holes/reed chambers allow more air flow over the reeds in the Rocket?
Thanks!
Jay

Sounds reasonable. Maybe a bit of a more airtight fit generally. So effectively applying more air pressure with the same relative breath force than on the original comb. Interesting observation

I took a set of new "Hohner" Rocket reed plates and installed them in a Special 20 comb and then put a set of Turbo Lids on it and it is one more sweet playing harp, one of my top 5 now :) Turbo Lids will also fit on Manji harmonicas, you will need to take out the top reed plate screw in the middle but they make the Manji sound a lot better to me :)
