For those interested in harmonicas that push the envelope of current designs, I’ve created two new compact models of my Twin-Harmonica System: The CX-12 DoubleChrom, and the slimline X-Reed Chromatic Mk2.
CX-12 DoubleChrom The popular, user-friendly Hohner CX-12 is one of the cleverest harmonicas ever produced, with convenient snap-fit assembly. It forms the base model of my new compact DoubleChrom, made by fusing two CX-12s together behind a master slider - the first time this has ever been done. Check out the assembly video to see the inner workings of this formidable new harmonica:
To reduce cost, it’s possible to order the upper unit/housing only and insert your own CX-12s in the back.
I've also radically slimmed down my unique all-bending chromatic harmonica, the X-Reed Chromatic Mk2. Pics and info here:
Hi Diggs, you can have two chromatics in any of a range of keys between Tenor C and G. Each chromatic can be played in 12 keys, as with any normal chromatic. However the DoubleChrom makes the 'difficult' keys a lot easier, as it gives you several other ways of playing any given phrase.
For example, A major will be a lot easier on the D chrom than the C chrom. Or you could switch between the two chroms in the middle of a lick - the possibilities are endless.
There are lots of possible options for which chroms to choose. I just had a request for C and F# chroms, and the guy wanted to push the master slider in half way to get tritone harmonies.. Kind of strange to me, but if I add an extra notch in the master slider it will hold it in half-way to give him that functionality.
