Hi folks. I'm looking to pick up a recorder with the best sound quality without breaking the bank. I want to use it to record and play back our band practices and possibly to put onto disc to promote our band for gigs. I realize a high end system is best for this but I'm hoping someone has experience with a modestly priced recorder suitable for what I need. Any help greatly appreciated.

The Zoom H4N is what I have. I use it for practice & rehearsals. We have used it to send MP3s for promo. It is around $200.00. ----------

I think the iPHone is actually a pretty good recorder and especially since it has GarageBand. Blue has an external mic for it that is probably an upgrade. Zoom H4N is the probably the best ...agree w/Orphan ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com

I have used a Yamaha pocketrack 7 (PR7) for liverecording. Its very cheap. It's high definition, which I think you need. iPhone has a very crappy mic. Click my youtubelink below and listen to the video telephone blues if you want an example of the sound. ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

It's tough to beat a Tascam for the $$.
I've had a DR-1 since it came out, and even by today's standards, it produces very high quality recordings.
Initially the Zoom's where not user friendly, (very complicated). They have since resolved that.
IIRC Greg uses a Tascam also.

Anything Apple will work but it's usually expensive. I have everything Apple. Lots of phones have digital recording now and I'm sure every tablet has it also plus video. ----------
