Larry so do you mean that the regular election is taking place, or are you talking about something a bit more sensational?
Considering the interactions you and the President of SPAH have had here on the forum I can't help but think you're trying to stir up some trouble.
Please say what it is you're alluding to.

Sherwin:
You can read whatever you want into my posting, filtering it through your own life experience. This does not mean that your perception has anything to do with my true intent.
I am simply curious and asking a question based on talk heard elsewhere. ---------- The Iceman

Hi Larry, agreed, yes.
So then what is your intent, and what is this talk you heard?
please say what 'it ' is, because you telling me I'm free to interperet things using the filter of my life experience is a response, but not an answer.
Gee why the mystery?
Michael

No mystery...
Simply, I heard from someone not on this list that this Aug there will be another President of SPAH.
My intent is curiosity.
If I remember correctly, a new President is elected every two years. ---------- The Iceman

I think Winslow has done a good job. He helped to transition from just a chromatic regime to a mixed diatonic and chromatic SPAH. ----------

SPAH holds a presidential election every three years. This year SPAH will hold its next election.
In the Spring 2015 issue of Harmonica Happenings, SPAH members will be able to read statements from candidates, and will be able to vote online or by mail during a defined period.
Will there be a new president? Maybe and maybe not.
Let me quote from the President's letters from the Fall 2014 and Winter 2015 issues of Harmonica Happenings. The relevant portions will tell you everything you need to know.
From the Autumn 2014 issue of Harmonica Happenings:
Changes in leadership As many of you know, Elizabeth Atkison has done a superb job as convention director but has been looking to step down. She’s finally taken that step, and we look forward to having a new convention director in place soon. However, Elizabeth and her husband LJ come as a team, and so they exit as a team. LJ has tendered his resignation as SPAH vice president along with his convention duties. I want to thank them both for their magnificent work in seeing SPAH smoothly through the last two years after serving six years during Tom Stryker’s presidency. In addition to his duties as vice president, LJ did a great job with evaluation of negotiations with convention venues, planning space usage, signage, and vendor relations.
Phil Duncan has been working closely with LJ on most of these activities and will be taking them over. Phil is best known as an author of harmonica instructional books (a fellow author!) and has become a larger and larger presence in running SPAH’s activities in recent years. I see that role continuing to grow, and his help and involvement are very welcome.
Those of you who – ahem – actually attended the last two annual general meetings will have become somewhat familiar with SPAH Secretary Michael D’Eath as he furiously tapped notes into a laptop. However, Michael’s abilities hold considerably more promise than taking minutes. Michael was on the board of the Texas Folk Music Foundation for 8 years, and left (after reaching his term limit) in 2013. During his tenure, TFMF acquired the renowned Kerrville Folk Festival, now in its 44th year. Michael chaired the Foundation during its first 4 years of festival operation, and oversaw its transition from a struggling corporation into a well-regarded non-profit foundation operating a one-of-a-kind 18-day festival.
I’ve had my eye on Michael for a good while and I believe he can bring a lot of organizational smarts and fresh ideas to SPAH. I consider him to be future presidential material and I encourage you to get to know him and his wife, singer-songwriter and vocal teacher Brenda Freed. I have asked Michael to accept the post of vice president, and I am happy to report that he has agreed. As vice president, he will assist me with the many tasks I have before me.
From the Winter 2015 issue of Harmonica Happenings
Democracy allows choice—in fact, requires it. Every three years SPAH members get to vote for a president, and every election should offer choices among candidates who can advance SPAH and the harmonica. If you’re interested in running, or finding out more about the requirements and the process, please email Election Committee Chair JP Pagan at elections@spah.org.
While no candidates are officially nominated yet, one candidate has declared. Vice President Michael D’Eath has shown extraordinary ability, first as secretary and now as vice-president. I’ve been busy with my new book, and have delegated the majority of my responsibilities to him over the last few months. He has done an excellent job, bringing strong organizational and executive skills. I think that SPAH would be in excellent hands with Michael and I urge you to give him serious consideration.
New to the SPAH team
SPAH board and staff members are all volunteers, and we’re always grateful when highly capable, motivated people step up and apply their skills to making SPAH both run and run better. Since the last issue of HH, we’ve seen these new additions to the board and staff:
Bruce Dunai, treasurer
Jerry Deall, secretary
Tuey Connell, convention director
