Has anyone in the UK ever got their bullet mic Chrome plated in the UK and if so what did it cost?

Those things look super cool, but they get slippery. Something to think about if using a crystal element.

Personally I wouldn't get it done, as Joe says they do look cool, but they can get very slippery. If you're going to get it done though bear in mind it won't be cheap. Most likely around £50-70 and maybe even more.

Hi, Thanks for that guys. I have in fact owned a Chrome astatic before but due to financial issues I sold it on many moons ago and I never suffered the sweaty hand/chrome thing! If anyone else has ever had a shell chromed in UK would like to hear from you?

I had some shells chrome plated here in the States. I say shellS because it was only economical to do several at once. (And that turned out not to be so economical after all.) Paid about $300 for 6 shells and grills, but it wouldn't have been any less to do 1. That was the shop minimum.
IF you have this done, consider nickel plating, which is a stop between raw metal and chrome. Nickel plating looks SO MUCH nicer in my opinion. Chrome has a blue tint. Nickel has a yellow tint and looks much more "old school.". The drawback is that it tarnishes so has to be polished once in a while.

Hi Greg, Thanks for that and wow that's a fair few bucks, don't know why but I was thinking that maybe stateside you might have got that done cheaper...but hey, what do I know. The nickel plate sounds a great idea actually, I really like to see that on bobbers and some vintage cars so that's pretty appealing to me. I'll contact some companies here in the UK and see what I come up with. BTW, cool site and mics!

You could try contacting some local garages, bike shops, etc and ask if next time they do some you can add your mic shell(s) to the job. It might help keep the cost down a bit. I saw pics of the shells that Greg had done and the nickel plating is far nicer than the chrome in my opinion.
