The ones made in the Czech Republic (along with other harps made there) unfortunately, don't play particularly well, especially compared to any of the older stock made in Germany prior to the 80's, and with that box, it certainly looks like it it was made in the mid to late 80's to mid 90's.
The old 364/365 are fun harps to play, especially for something played acoustically with a strong rhyhtmic focus. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
barbequebob> I don't like the mouth feel(very fat) of my 364 but other than being uncomfortable to use I think it plays well. I dug it out of the drawer when someone posted Sonny Boy playing Bye Bye Bird on facebook. I think Sonny Boy must have had a massive mouth as he is able to hold and play this harp within his mouth.
It just takes time to adjust to things, just like going from another brand harp to another. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
BQB - I've had one for 4 years that I never play.....I have thought about it however. Do you think that flat sanding and sealing the comb would make it play better ? ----------
I love mine. It plays like a dream. I like the extra percussiveness needed to pull it off well.
I think mine is from Germany though. It says on the label only. I have no Idea what the history of manufacturing of these are. I bought mine in the last year or so from Rockin' Ron.
The plastic red pouch was already in use by sometime in the 1970s, I think. I used to find them in a variety of paper boxes in stores in the late '60s; probably new old stock that had been gathering dust.
I usually flat sand, seal, and convert mine to screw construction.
By the way, the 14-hole #365 model has a much lower cover profile that makes it much more mouth friendly. =========== Winslow
I cannot remember exactly when I got mine, ca 7-8 years ago & I suspect it was old stock. I know I paid next to nothing for it. ---------- HARPOLDIE’S YOUTUBE
