Nice vid!!! Every vocalist as well as every harp player needs to pay attention to this video. Just from my own personal experience with a vocal coach just for the breathing exercises alone helped out by the truckload.
However, I STRONGLY recommend going to a reputable vocal coach rather than just rely on YT videos alone because they can see problems that 99% of the time you will NEVER see for yourself yet they can see them in a nanosecond. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
@mastercaster. There is a lot that can be applied to harp as well. Very true.
@barbequebob. Wise words. There are so many aspects to singing that I didn't even know existed before going to a teacher (still am). Not just the obvious things but many subtleties too. I totally concur.
I learn't something new. Thanks Eric. I have seen this somewhere before ie I think it may have been in a program on tv like The Voice. My onetime vocal coach wanted me to sing in Italian (she was an opera singer). In my 70's all I wanted to sing was a few cowboy songs so she didn't last. I regularly consult 'Singing For Dummies' which like all the Dummies series are good.I just had a search though and there doesn't appear to be any mention of the lip trills! Makes sense. ---------- HARPOLDIE’S YOUTUBE
@David. Sharing knowledge was the intent of this post so glad you learned something. Trilling is one of the standard things I do when trying to learn a new song. It's also easier to do exercises if you trill through them first (in my experience).
I respect the hell out of opera singers because they are taught how to project over anything using the least amount of breath force necessary WITHOUT using microphones and I've heard more than a few of them easily carry over 42 piece orchestras like it was a freaking joke to them and they practice a lot and they all learn how to take PROPER care of their voices and that's another thing a good vocal coach will teach you. One of the things I learned in terms of the care and feeding of the vocals was to avoid all dairy products or anything with dairy at least 2-4 hours before singing because that can cause an unwanted layer of mucous on your vocal chords and can cut down your range pretty drastically. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
One of the tips I did get from my coach was to carry a packet of Fishermans Friend Aniseed & suck one before any performance. It suppresses the urge to want to clear your throat half way through a song.
Another tip I got from someone here a few years ago was to take a swig of Worcestershire Sauce before singing. Personally I think the Fishermans Friend does the same job.
I was informed by my coach to stay clear of dairy products before singing. ---------- HARPOLDIE’S YOUTUBE
@SuperBee. I sometimes have the attitude of the people who say "I can already trill." This reinforced the effectiveness of doing it right. Another thing my teacher taught me was to feel where the resonance is on the mask of the face when I trill and aim for the some places when singing.
@barbequebob. I drank some chocolate milk an hour before my last lesson and found myself choking on the high notes.
@Aussiesucker. My teacher cracked down on my throat clearing tendencies from the get-go. I find chilli also causes some mucus. BronzeWailer's YouTube
