Hey y'all, Hoping that this isn't too far off topic, but should I be worried about lead being in the red paint(?) on my '60s era Hohner Marine Band 364? Just curious... Thanks in advance! ~HJScott

My expertise: 25+ years in the coatings industry in technical and technical sales roles.
I wouldn't worry about it. There were two types of lead pigments in paint: red and white. The red was more of an iron oxide color: think barn red, not fire engine red. The white lead has been replaced by TiO2 since sometime in the '60's. (One of my mentors met with John F. Kennedy about the dangers of white lead.) The main problem with lead pigments is inhalation or ingestion. The inhalation problem is for people in a paint plant, emptying bags of lead pigments, or for workers doing removal of dried lead paint by sanding or sandblasting. The ingestion problem is eating the pigment, such as children eating lead paint chips (or by eating soil contaminated by years of leaded gasoline exhaust.) If your harp starts to chip, then don't play it, but otherwise you should be OK.
