Since there is a very high concentration of competent tech savvy harp enthusiasm here and i can't find any answer to my questions, i'd figure i ask.

-Is there any difference at all between replaced reeds fixed with screw and bolt and originals factory riveted ones ?

From sound to tone, bend to overbend, react time to the airflow, ect... or do a replaced reed act exactly the same as on original.

_______

BTW, anybody knows where else than the hohner shop i could find an universal holder for reamers ?
I don't know what's in the mind of hohner but every single tool they sell can be found 2 times cheaper elswhere (starting with the seydel shop). Except for an universal holder, for some reason i can't find one anywhere :/

I haven't noticed a difference with bolted reeds.

If anything, the screwed on ones should be better, because they will be centered, and probably closer the the end of the slot. That is if they are installed by a competent harp tech.

I think what may want for a universal holder for your reamer is commonly referred to as a "pin vise". Andrew Zajac sells them at his site, as does Richard Sleigh.
Both these cats are very accomplished harmonica techs with exceptional service. *I am not affiliated with either vendor the choice is yours.

"From sound to tone, bend to overbend, react time to the airflow, ect... or do a replaced reed act exactly the same as on original."

How the reed is fixed to the reed plate makes no difference so long as it is on straight and the reed plate is flat.

If I had to chose only one way, I would pick using a screw. It can take a minute longer than using a rivet but the advantages are pretty significant.

First off if the rivet hole in the plate is crooked, your reed will never sit straight. And it will never play perfectly unless you straighten the hole.

Also, if the reed plate is bent/unflat, you will increase the challenge of getting the reed to play well.

By using a screw, you can correct problems and not cause new ones at the same time.

Now, once the reed in properly in place, it's probably out of shape for optimal playing. You need to check and adjust the reed shape (curve). That's going to have an impact on tone, response, bend, overbending...

Well, thanks everyone, i think all of my questions have been answered.
Good to know that bolts and screws are as good as rivets, if not better when manually done.
