Last week while competing at the IBC our group set aside some time to record at Royal Studios with Boo Mitchell. We spent 12 hours and were able to lay down 5 songs in a rough format.

This was really my first legitimate studio experience and there was an awful lot to learn and adjust to. Namely playing in isolation from everybody else was pretty strange at first.

In any case, I got to play through some cool analog equipment. All the amplified playing was through an old Airline amp.

I wanted to share this cut called "Open Road". It's a scratch track and hasn't been mixed, but the harp will most likely remain unchanged.

I really liked "your" band in Memphis! Thought you were a shoo in for the quarter finals. I saw bands in your venue that were clearly inferior to yours that made it. Been to the IBC's many times and I've never figured out how the judges choose. I thought you guys were as good as Nico Wayne Toussaint and he finished 3rd in the finals.

I actually really like most of the mix/sound as is, except that the vocals need to be a bit higher in the mix, and the snare drum needs to be centered a bit more. the guitar and harmonica are both perfect.

This is a really good song.

Tuckster - Thanks for the kind words. It was good to see you last week. Having never been in the IBC, we didn't have any expectations. It was kind of a relief to NOT make the quarter finals.

Nico Wayne Toussaint has an incredible amount of energy and charisma on stage. I definitely understand why he and his group progressed - it was a no brainer.

tf10music - Thanks for the suggestions. The vocals are just a place marker and not the final vocals. We all just needed something to keep us on track because things fell apart without them as a reference.

This is an original song written by our band leader Nelson. It's been cool to be part of the creative process as the songs develop. I'll let him know that you all are digging it.

Oh Yeah! Great tune, great playing. Please treat us to the final mix of this one when it's done. And if the rest of the songs are anywhere near this good, put me on the list to buy your CD when it's done :)

your sense of timing is really good! nicely played, even a 6 ob! :-)

and even if you don't think so now, getting a real pro to mix it will make it pop even more!

Meaux Jeaux - Good ear! I'm totally quoting "Mellow Down Easy" on the verses.
