Greetings!
I have picked up the Harmonica near the end of 2014 and since then i have put together 3 audios which i deem good enough to gather some opinions on!
I realize that i will most likely not be able to even come close to other things uploaded to this forum but i would greatly appreciate feedback (if i put lyrics in any of the songs they are most likely utter crap so feedback on that is wanted as well)

For my first song i took a Sample off of wikiloops and played some harmonica over it adding some vocals as well.
It has the background beat of a happy punk song. I am unsure wether the distortion on the harp improved the song or not though...

The second attempt at a song turned out better than the first one in my opinion.
Again a loop from wikiloops, which i added vocals and harmonica to.

This third item is basically some bluesy playing i had in my head the whole day, which means it is nothing but my B Harp

I hope you enjoyed this small Post of mine!
I would greatly appreciate criticism

Hi 10Bit, welcome to a great resource for new players and a very good forum for all levels as well. Adam has some great lessons available both here and on youtube.
Song 1, I think you followed pretty well. Nuance is something which takes time but good beginning.
Song 2, my apologies, I don't relate well to the basic song. I'm much more blues based. I do suggest that in the beginning you leave the effects off for the most part, until you have a grasp of what all a harp can be made to do by itself.
Song 3, More an exploration of what the harp can do, right?
I have to take some ownership here, I am not musically trained past a couple of lessons and what I've managed to learn in 40+ years of messing with harps. In a word I am not technical, I learned by more a copycat method for the most part.
Is the B key harp your only one? C and G are probably the most typical keys for lessons on line and with cd/book learning sets. I have to say I have rarely used a B in blues playing or really much at all. I have not owned a B in many years. You may find as you progress, that you will want several more key harps. I would recommend that you try several brands and kinds, ie Hohner Special 20, Marine Band,
Suzuki Manji, Hammond, Lee Oskar, Seydel, and figure out both what your budget can take and what works well for you. Musicians and bands like to play in different keys and it's a good idea to have what you need to participate when the opportunity presents itself.

I am sure you will have comments from a number of others here, it's a friendly place with lots of helpful folks around!
If you have been playing just a couple of months you are doing pretty well imho. I personally was a very slow learner. If you can find someone close by who can give you some lessons or pointers I think that may accelerate your learning curve.
Check out the links to my stuff if you like. Hope to see you around here and again, welcome!

I gotta agree with jbone's advice- I started with the special 20 and not long after that the Hohner Rocket came out and now those are my go to harmonicas. I don't have them all but I am working on it. I also want to snag a set of Hohner Thunderbird harmonicas once I get the money. I have tried a few other harps- manji- Seydel but always fell back to the hohner brand- but that's just me. go with what not only catches your fancy but what makes you feel good when you play

Ok - you sound like a beginner.

But, I did hear someone who has a good feel for music - particularly phrasing. While there was a lot of noodling, you broke it up into nice chunks which fit well with the music.

I would say that not much was particularly bluesy, but you have a lot of promise for such a short time in.

Keep it up, and Kudos for laying it out there!

Great start!

Good thing is, you're on one of the best places to be. Adam's lesson s are some of the best available. He is a gifted teacher, and will have you on the road pretty smartly.

Also as others have said, this is a great place to get tips and find encouragement. Best of luck.

Punk harmonica! Don't get much of that here - you have a niche already.

I think you are doing one thing that really helps progress: recording yourself. If I had my time again, that's what I'd do from the start.

Hi 10BIT, and welcome.

That's impressive stuff considering how recently you started. I can't pretend I'm not a teeny bit jealous... I guess I'm more of a 2BIT player. ;)

"Memo to self - spend more time playing harmonicas and less time buying them."

Most importantly, though - you were clearly enjoying yourself. And that, for me, is what the harmonica all about.
