Years ago I was in a band and after a song that was only 3 into the set, the singer said we were going to take a short break.

I found out that in the same pattern in the song, BOTH guitarists AND the bass player (!) had broken a string.

If only Sheldon were here to do the math.

Has anything like that EVER happened to you guys

I once was working with a guy and he had two guitars with him. Middle of a song he swaps guitars in the middle of my harp part. End of song something sounds a little off. He immediately gets out TWO high E strings and changes off on both guitars. He had broken BOTH high e's on that one song.
Not quite the same but related:
Many years ago.
A few songs into set 1 one evening the guitarist called a break and took off his guitar. Kind of agitated he didn't say much and headed for his truck. I followed him out to ask what was wrong and he just drove off in a hurry. The gig was 30 minutes south of Fort Worth and there was nothing nearby except the marina/restaurant we were playing at.
Mystified, we all just hung out and waited.
Bill comes rolling back in and says, "Well?? Let's Play this thing!" Which we do, and get paid. As we're loading out Bill finally tells us, he had a crown split off a tooth early on and the pain was wicked. He went to the nearest convenience store and found some super glue, and in the parking lot, in his truck, dried the tooth and the crown with a napkin and glues the crown back on!
Then came back and finished the gig.
Tough hombre.
