This clip has been posted here at some point but deserves another posting. It's rough and ready, warts and all, and it's thus a great example of live blues in all its glory. HD. Deep groove; lots of space. A medium shuffle, just a hair slower then some people might play it, and they hold tempo like a rock. Pros at work. Oh yeah: great third position harp, too.

i can't imagine the restraint ,to not rush that beat!!
wish i could sit in the back of some dark bar and hear that band all night.
that will be a fun one to play along with in the morning, and the key of B is a nice change of pace.

i was once fortunate enough to see kim wilson open for BB king at the academy of music in philadelphia. he walked to the edge of the stage and totally filled the place with jimmy reed bends, with no microphone. if i am not mistaken,it was a hohner little lady or similar harp tuned like the top four holes of an A harp.wish i could find one of those!! ---------- www.shakeylee.com

He's playing one of the very few Jimmy Reed tunes that Jimmy ever used 3rd position playing in. His backing band on this video, Kirk Fletcher on guitar, Larry Taylor on upright bass and Richard Innes on drums are excellent and Larry and Richard were the rhythm section for Hollywood Fats' old band and those guys know how to groove, playing the groove BEHIND THE BEAT (which is where the REAL blues groove is played and NEVER ahead of it). Richard Innes' drumming here is along the lines of Earl Phillips, who was the drummer on many of the tunes Jimmy Reed recorded over the years. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

It's a gig, not a jam session. Take a look at the video description: "Kim Wilson and his band performing in the HOHNER NAMM booth."

I like the tempo that Kim is playing this at more than the original by Jimmy Reed, "you upset my mind." Well balanced tune...noone is trying to outdo the other.

I've seen this clip previously on YT and, sorry to say, Barley Nectar, the vast majority of open jams are RARELY ever this kind of musically together unless you're in one of the so called "snob jams"/special invite jams, where the overall musicianship tends to be considerably higher than an open jam usually is.
If this was a jam, this is more of what you would see when it's the special invite/snob jams because of EXACTLY what I've just posted, and you have musicians here that TRULY know the music COLD. You can call it bad mouthing all you want and you're entitled to your opinion, but everything I say about the vast majority of open jams are all brutally honest. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
