I know there are a few of us here that have a CBH2016. As nice as they are, Michael Easton of Fat Head Musical Instruments has just started making custom cover plates and mouth pieces for them. The covers are open back for better projection and reduced back pressure. Check out his Facebook page for pics. They look sweet and aren't too cost prohibitive. I can't put a link here from my phone. Sorry.

IMHO I don't think they're an upgrade. The blow back that is mentioned about the 2016 goes away in about two weeks as your playing adjusts. The cover plates that Cham-ber designed fits your hand perfectly for great hand vibrato. The classic Cham-ber/Bonfiglio hand vibrato is done with two fingers and sounds beautiful.

This is with hand held mic.

This off the mic by about six inches.
You can hear the hand vibrato.

Yeah agree the big boy CBH is a great harp, but the coverplates are very muting. I can't think of a better way of putting it. Just take the covers off and play it then put them back on. It sounds like two different harps. Once you get to the top half of the it sounds fine, but the first (lower) half sounds to dark to me.
Other than that I think it is one of the best harmonicas ever made.

That lower end can be gorgeous if you can know how to
use it. This is off mic a few inches.

Regarding my OP, I was just passing along some info. I have never heard one with the new plates on it yet. But knowing how most of us here like to not leave well enough alone, I wanted to pass this along.

When I got my CBH it was a gift about 5 years ago. I didn't know exactly what I had, but I knew it something special and I didn't want to muck it up. So I never played it for about a year and a half. Last year I really started to learning how use my chroms more. The CBH is a different beast altogether. I like mine as it is and don't know if I'll get the new covers or not. Time will tell.

I'm sending my CBH to Mike today. I'll post a report when I get it back.-Greg
