I came across Kid Andersen's youtube channel today and there are a few interesting videos about stuff that people play wrong.
They are worth watching just to give an idea of what people should be playing or what you should be listening out for.
EDIT: spelling correction

I dig these videos. I wish he would do more of them. The Kid is a good dude. He can play damn near any instrument really well. He can play guitar left handed than most left handed guitarists. Plus, he is a true student of music. I've learned a lot from him. Playing music with him is a lot of fun. He does shit the right way.
His name is also spelled with an "e". Kid Andersen.

I watched the whole series. Not only very informative but entertaining and pretty hilarious too.
The bass guitar videos he does on Cissy Strut and Rock Me Baby where he shows the "wrong way" and then the "right way" are great ear training. I think BBQ Bob would approve ;)
Thanks for the post Belfast!

I've watched those videos a lot and Kid teaches some great stuff in them. I hope he does a lot more of them.

He's got it right on the money, unlike 95% of jam hacks. This is a super simplified way of understand how a groove works. He's also showing you something most people tend to pay little or no attention to when playing a Jimmy Reed groove, and he shows something I've heard in many Jimmy Reed tunes that there are often more than just one guitar, but often THREE guitars in them, each playing a different, but fully complimentary counter rhythm part (obviously too many musicians are often guilty of listening to a music like 95% of the jam hacks you see in open jams, meaning solos first and everything else DEAD LAST, which are CRAPPY listening skills). Good first step towards developing good listening skills. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

"Now, if you don't think it's fun playing this for a whole song, you're doing it wrong and(/or?) you suck!"
Best lesson ever right there!

Kid's a great musician and producer. My wife's a big Rick Estrin fan so managed to catch the band a number of times over the past 15 months. I highly recommend the live Rick Estrin & The Nightcats CD recorded about a year ago and released last summer. Kid plays guitars of course, maybe a bit of bass, co-produced and did the mixing.

Kid is also the perfect comedy foil for Rick's sense of whimsy on stage. ---------- The Iceman
