The opening 1:20 of this track is some of the finest blues harmonica I know. Since 1990, when it was recorded in NYC, it's only been available on a rare LP. Now it's yours. Put on some headphones and crank it up. Merry Christmas.

This makes me want to listen to "El Café street Live" again. I haven't played it in a while... Fantastic blues!

Yeah, buddy! I do love me some Nat Riddles. Thanks for turning us on to such a blues harp talent that we otherwise would know nothing about. El Cafe stays in rotation on my iPod. ---------- Ricky B http://www.bushdogblues.blogspot.com RIVER BOTTOM BLUES--crime novel for blues fans available at Amazon/B&N and my blog THE DEVIL'S BLUES--ditto HOWLING MOUNTAIN BLUES--due out early 2015

Love the El Cafe recordings! However, recordings like this one (mercifully, there are some of them on youtube) lift the veil of the true and beautiful and reveal it in all its splendor. What a radiant guy indeed!
I always feel there is some real torment underneath his beaming personality, which makes it profound instead of superficial. As though he fought some demons, settled the battle and came up with this lightness.
Were there demons, Adam? You write he was a dancer and good in school etc, but nothing about .. wait: there were the problems with his father?
Anyhow, great music!
