This is a video discussion and demonstration on Country Tuning. I'm using a Seydel Session Steel (C) standard tuning and a Session Steel (C) that is country tuned. I'm using a rack and playing the Patsy Cline classic Crazy

Hey Todd,
You are right.
I did some editing and it shifted pitch.

Nice video and demo. I have thought about getting a country tuned harp. How does this affect the chords? Do the chords still sound good? Is it only suitable for single note melodies?

Lmbrjak,
I think your question probably relates to the concept of temperament, not tuning.

The I, IV, & V are all playable in Country Tuning.
You get the V on the 4-6 draw.

Since Country Tuning is really for 2nd position play, it can be tuned Just so you can get sweet chords.

So in answer to your question, you can use it for chords or for single note.

Re: Chords on country-tuned harps, you win some, you lose some.

You win a major triad on the V chord (4, 5, 6 draw) and a major 7 on the I chord (2, 3, 4, 5 draw).

You lose the I7 chord.

I have a few Special 20s in Country Tuning, which I really enjoy playing. Sometimes a certain song needs that major 7th (or needs me to avoid the flatted 7th). Using the CT harps on a rock, pop, jazz, or country/bluegrass song helps to keep me from reverting back to my usual blues habits. Chords sound fine, and that 4-5-6 draw is bright and brassy, which can be very effective in some songs.

you get a great 6th pos draw chord too on 3 4 5 6, with an octave on 7
