[edited to add: the event is live! see formal announcement below]

On June 25th, I'm going to be overseeing a one-day blues harmonica workshop in Holly Springs, Mississippi--about eight miles north of Foxfire Ranch.

The teachers are going to be Jason Ricci, Billy Gibson, Brandon Bailey, and yours truly.

Price is $100. It will last from 9 to 4. There will be three 75 minute sessions with individual teachers (you'll have the option of signing up with whomever you prefer, one or two or three different teachers) plus a 90 minute group session.

In the evening, there will be some kind of jam with folks who are taking a blues guitar workshop the same day. The jam will be at David Kimbrough's new juke joint.

I was asked to organize this by Sara Brown, the head of the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic, which will be having its tenth anniversary that Friday and Saturday.

My hope is that some Hill Country Harmonica veterans will decide to make this a mini-reunion. My further hope is that we'll convince the folks at Foxfire to host Jason and his band there on Sunday evening. Then it will really feel like a reunion.

Hill Country Harmonica at Foxfire Ranch--the sort of two-day event we put on in 2010, 2011, and 2012--will NOT be happening this year. But this one-day event WILL be happening. And because a truly unique festival happens on Friday and Saturday--including Billy playing with Kenny Brown and his band, plus the Blues Doctors with Jason sitting in on a few--this will be a weekend worth remembering.

Note: Jason is 100% on board but only 95% confirmed, due to the outside possibility of his agent having another date.

When I have registration information, you may be sure that I'll share it here. I should have it within 72 hours, if not sooner.

OK, the event is live.

The North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic Harmonica Workshop will take place in Holly Springs, Mississippi on June 25, 2015. It will run from 9 AM to 4 PM.

The teachers will be Jason Ricci, Billy Gibson, Brandon Bailey, and Adam Gussow.

There will be three 75-minute breakout sessions, several smaller breaks, a lunch break, and a 90 minute session with all four teachers and the assembled company.

Registration fee is $100 plus a $3-4 processing fee through EventBrite.

The evening of the workshop, there will be some sort of get-together at a local juke joint, which will bring us together with the guitar students at a parallel guitar workshop, plus the guitar instructors, who are drawn from the cream of the crop of hill country bluesmen.

On the Friday and Saturday following the workshop, the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic will be taking place nearby. It is a spectacularly good event that pretty much pulls together EVERY legit act from the area. YT videos of past picnics will make this abundantly clear.

Billy will be playing the festival with the Kenny Brown Band. The Blues Doctors will be playing the festival.

I have urged Jason to contact the Hollowells and book himself and his band a gig on Sunday evening at Foxfire Ranch. Whether or not he's able to do that, I would like this long weekend to become a Hill Country Harmonica reunion. I urge HCH alums to think about coming on down.

One warning: late June is when the hot muggy weather is in full effect. If you've always wanted the "In the Heat of the Night" experience of Mississippi, you'll get it with that weather.

Here are relevant links for registration and info, as provided by Sara Brown, the festival organizer:

Billy Gibson has withdrawn from the workshop and festival, much to my surprise, and Sara Brown's. So we'll be looking for a new fourth person.

John Nemeth expressed an interest in the event, several months ago, as did his agent, so he's my next call. I'll share updates here.

With you were doing a 3-day love fest like prior years, Adam - I can't justify the travel expense for a single day affair - not enough social time!

But I understand and hope you have a great show.

Yeah, I wish Jeff and I had the time to stage the Big Lebowski. It just hasn't been in the cards.

But when Sara Brown came to me and said, "It's the 10th anniversary of our festival in 2015 and we want to do something special. Would you organize a harmonica workshop?", I didn't have to think very long about whether to say yes, or about who I wanted on my teaching team.

I'm hoping we can round Sunday out with a great concert at Foxfire. I suspect that a few HCH alums will make the trek. I certainly hope so.

Jason and the other teachers have now all weighed in, so the schedule (with lists of topics in breakout sessions) is now complete. Please take a look:
