Highly recommended.
David Barrett's website has the best blues harp instruction on the Web, probably because he's made a full-time career out of teaching harmonica. The LOA program is a nice way to focus and discipline your studies on the site.

David's website is absolutely the reference standard for blues harmonica instruction. I do what I can, but he IS the man.

I'm up to level 8.
The program will definitely help build your skills and it's comprehensive so you'll be forced to work on stuff that you might be weaker on (maybe theory, basslines, improv, etc..).
I also find that the requirement to record and submit your study song performances really forces you to honestly confront your delivery and presentation and make adjustments and fine-tuning that you might otherwise gloss over.. at least for me!
Best of luck..

@Kudzu: very decent of you to say so, given your interest in teaching. Its true, his is the reference standard, especially when it comes to the mechanics of the instrument.
However, when it comes to feel, blues culture, approach, philosophy and mojo; the intangibles, YOU are the man! ---------- Lucky Lester

I've been learning tons from all over, this forum IS awesome, with the option to search it's the best! LOA looks cool, and motivating for sure. Kudzu, thanks for putting all of this together and sharing the passion! Your YT vids, along with Michael Rubin, and Ronnie Shellist really accelerated my understanding of the harp and my level of playing. I'm a drummer, so playing a lead now and again is refreshing! Cheers!

No question. You should do it.
It's only like $18 a month. You get access to so many lessons, tons of great harmonica instrumentals, and lots of great interviews with harp players. And then you can you can also record your versions of the songs and then send them in for feedback.

yes, i'm working my way through it Ever So Slowly...it is good i believe...i have done all the study songs up to Level 6 before David put the LOA in place, but i didnt do the solo studies or accompaniment studies so i'm working through ther lessons, not just doing the exercises required to move on ...and i am re-recording all the previous song submissions because i figure i may as well...it is a good way to navigate David's site but i think i liked the site better the way it was before LOA. no matter, i'm happy to contribute my monthly fee towards keeping this great website viable

I am going through LOA, getting close finishing level 5. I highly recommend actually submitting your work for testing. It will force you to really put in your best effort and you earn recognition. Hard work, but worth it. David will find your weaknesses, but it will make you stronger in the end.
