I have not purchased a progressive Special 20, but I can see the cover plates are different and apparently the reed plates are too. I am worried because 20's are my go to harp.
Does it sound different?
Does it feel different in your hands?
Does it feel different in your lips?
Thanks.

This was as dumb a move as changing the Coka-Cola recipe.

Joe Spiers posted on Facebook that there is no appreciable difference between the old model and the new one--just the cover plates. I trust Joe! I do know that Hohner isn't selling replacement reed plates for the SP20 anymore, but I think Rocket reed plates will fit and will be available.

I am undecided as to whether or not it was a good idea to change the cover plate, however, I also have no concerns about the quality or sound of the Special 20. I believe the main change (to the reed plates) was made to make their models more modular and interchangeable. For instance, I have been putting Rocket covers on Crossovers and I like the look and sound of it. I can do this without having to cut off corners of Special 20 covers or drill extra holes. You will also now be able to put Crossover/Marine Band Deluxe covers on your Special 20's if you wish.
At SPAH, Hohner also said they plan to change the classic Marine Band covers to include the "Marine Band" logo, as the Crossover and MBD both now have. So it will basically say Marine Band twice.

I prefer the covers of rockets over sp20 because of the increased vents....that being said, the playability of sp20 is still as good as the rocket at a lower price
