In his solos here I believe it´s fair to say that deLay shows more fantasy and musical intelligence than what some players take a career to produce:

It goes without saying .. PdL was in a league of his own on the harp ... like many of the masters ... I don't think enough folks give praise to his vocal ability ... unique in a way sort of like John Fogerty .. real hard to reproduce ...

I didn't dig this. I prefer the Johnny Young version of this tune. His vocal delivery seemed forced to me. The harp solo didn't move me. This is a great tune, but I thought this version was kind of a dud. Paul deLay was a fabulous songwriter and player, but I didn't think this represented his talent very well.

@JoeL. Interesting. I own quite a few, if not all, of his albums though not this one. And I must say that those lo-fi takes he does here pretty much comes out as cream of the crop for me. A really good day for him.
But a certain amount of diversity of opinion is only healthy and makes the world a more interesting place.

I agree Paul deLay was indeed a fabulous songwriter and player. He also had a really good voice in my opinion. I'm also a fan of some of his lo-fi recordings This is one of my favourite recordings of Paul deLay

Without a doubt my favorite chromatic player. Every time I listen to his stuff I hear something new. It might be his harp playing, his singing or a subtle background thing that's thrown in. And like William Clarke, Paul pulled out the best in the players around him. ---------- Purveyor of Optimized New and Refurbished Harmonicas.

I am big into the idea of RAW REAL RIGHT NOW in recording. There may be sacrifices here or there but the overall feel is worth it to me. When I'm listening I want to BE THERE. When I am playing I want YOU THERE.
I heard DeLay at Biscuit some ten years ago and thought he was great. Almost gave my stuff away. Instead he has served in his way to inspire me to somewhat bigger things. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene
