This is not a post about how to get so and so's tone, I'm interested in certain people's amps used on certain projects and albums. For instance, I've always heard George Harmonica Smith was fond of his Silvertone 1432, and I've heard both Walters played through whatever they could find and still sounded like themselves. I also read somewhere that RJ Mischo likes playing small amps like Champs on his recordings. I was listening to Big Walter play on Johnny Shines "Evening Sun" and thought "now THAT'S tone!" I've often thought it would be great to have a peek into the studios of some of these masters! Does anyone know the amp preferences of the classic recordings? Kid Ramos did something cool on one of his older albums, and listed the equipment he used on each song and I've always thought that was a great idea, especially for the gearheads.

From what I know George Smith preferred the Silvertone 1433, the 6L6 model. It's currently owned by a harp pro I won't name.
Its covered in blue tuck and roll vinyl from the 60's.
I've seen it, but a harp player friend of mine actually got to play it, what an honor!

Our next session- in 6 weeks- will have guitar and harp through two mid to late 70's Vibro Champs. Not sure what the bass will come in with. I'm pretty sure we'll be recorded onto 2" mag tape, 16 track, then moved onto a DAT. Generally I've used either a bigger harp amp or we've done none at all. Since this is with drums and bass amplification is in order, just not too much. Mic will be one of two- E-V m43u dynamic modded to hi z, or a Shure 585.
