He's better than some well known harp players I could name.

This video is the same song but close up.
Whats not to like? Big star playing decent harp...lot better than most rock stars who play 'some' harp ,most are shite as we all know.I'd bet that that is the best Harp that 99% of the audience have ever heard live.

Not really a compelling performance... I don't think he was even trying to connect with the crowd. Was he reading the lyrics off a phone?

Perhaps I am over sensitive, but I would have disappointed in myself if I delivered like that...

The harp was fine. Not mind blowing, but solid.

Bruce has attitude, which I respect because it's what I started with. Not that I had much chops but a real desire to be there and reach an audience. Was he phoning this one in? I was not there so I couldn't guess.
The way this band does that particular song is way laider back than Lester and Red Devils, and it's sort of a lesser version than I would try for in the same situation. I did notice, the band is totally focused on Bruce. It's how he wants it, period I would surmise.
The vocals were pretty good, maybe better than I could do there, but for loose, sloppy, off-the-edge, and totally delivered, there was nobody better than Lester Butler.

Another " star " blues player. I thought he was more into it than Bruce and seemed more part of the band

The singing was very uneven. There were some perfectly fine moments (around 3:14, for example), but there was a lot of pitchy stuff that sounded to my ears like a bad attempt to do Jim Morrison. There was zero showmanship. He spent most of the song, it appears, with his attention directed at his harp mic--although it's possible that he was just wasted, and lost in space. I'm not one of those people who thinks that a blues singer has to make eye contact with his audience, but there's such a thing as going too far in the other direction--so that you appear unfocused in the extreme, not quite there, and quite a bit less than fully invested in your performance. That's what I saw, especially with the closer view that indigo's video offered us.

The harp playing was pretty good.

It's interesting to compare that peformance with a somewhat earlier performance of the same song. His singing is pretty much exactly the same, down to the notes he fudges. But he's got much more energy, much more attitude, and the whole thing works.
