Just for fun...

Try to find beat "1" of this tune (and stick with it)

Piece of cake finding it but I had to wander a bit within the confines.

Ya, but there is a total inner logic to it, even though it seems to be shifting and changing. It's not the tune shifting, it's your attempt to find and stay on the "1" that is drifting, as you don't have the form right, which is one that is not "metric", but more like what is called "crooked tunes" for Old Tyme Music, in which the melody doesn't conform to full measures, but consists of an extra beat or beat and partial beat.

I haven't quite figured out the code yet, but it's fun to try.

I think this is a great BT for exercise and sharing if there are no copyright boundaries. It's a fun walk and I'd love to hear various interpretations.

@Ice - is that you on the keys?

link keeps disappearing. maybe because this is a track off an obscure CD and not an original?

If so, still interested in best way to post music on this site. Tried youtube, but they wouldn't let me upload music from my computer.

Have seen a few others here post audio file that looked like a little control bar from an audio program.

Nope.

Anyway, I only listened to the first minute and a half and that was all in 4/4, no problem following the 1. Did you pick the wrong file?

Let's try something else

click on the download link on this page.

Try to stay on the "1" for the whole song.

"The movie's file format isn't recognized."

I'm pretty sure that it's 4/4 throughout, though.

Sounds like a steady pulse 4/4 to me, although the Calvinet is a little distracting.

Here's a longer version (without the Clavinet):

It's a 2-bar Eb lick in 4:

Nothing to it, really.

Now I hear it...listening to the bass line threw me off - it's that unusual Latin type where the bass rarely falls on the beat, but anticipates it a bit.
