When I printed the post A Beginner's Manifesto I thought the author's material was well thought out and informative. But all of these list this and list that threads have mostly, though as you can tell, not totally got me ignoring those posts and those who post them. And this post has a subject that somehow I just don't get except it might be deliberately provocative or perhaps it just keeps the name on the first page. I'll try harder to ignore them.

Frank I suspect you might be in violation of the forum creed. Asking people to add their opinions on a a question that is in it's nature racially divided could in itself be construed as performing an act of racism. It would be the same if you limited the question to African American or Oriental players. Please don't post stuff like this, that contains racial overtones anymore. I like a lot of your posts and you give some insightful answers and post some thought provoking items as well. It would be a shame to lose you from this forum.

I agree with Kingley. Although I abhor political correctness, the question serves no real purpose, because few people really care to rank blues harmonica players on the basis of race.

Yall are full of it. I cant take this crap. Its well known the Blacks greatly influenced the Blues. Just bc a white man wants to know which white guy was the best blues harpist yall set in on him? Why is it when a white person is proud of who they are its different than when other races are proud? Any race besides WHITE can be PROUD. Minorities can have their own thing. I dont think his question divides a damn thing. This overly sensitive race thing seems to only apply to Whites, which I happen to be, and Im damn proud of it. Does that make me a racist? Heck no I am definately not a racist. But to bash a man for asking a simple question is BS.
Feel free to delete this post or ban me for speaking the truth.

Don't pay no mind to the complainers, makes em feel important, which they are'nt...They are the ones in violation of creed - coming into a thread merely to derail a great topic!
I argue for Bob Dylan too...The sound is ruff here - this was only 2 years ago and he is still blown strong and awesome harp - sounds like the place was packed and that was some "encore" applause when he hit that last thunderous note :)

Yes: Tired of these "greatest" threads. Anyway, I don't really care about the color of a musician's skin. We already have enough lists of greatest harp players, living and dead.
And let's give Dylan a break. He never set out to become a great harp player. The racked harp is part of his sound, but was never the source of his greatness or his "raison d'ĂȘtre"

The folk and folk/rock genre is what Dylan is doing and in that area, instrumental virtuosity is the single LEAST IMPORTANT ASPECT of it and much of the time harp tends to mirror the vocal melody and far too often harp players just want o mindlessly riff and don't want to bother learn melody. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

@ undertheradar - You can be proud of your heritage, many of us have a sense of pride regarding where our ancestors came from. But what you suggest is to be proud of a certain skill on the basis of skin color? That is warped.
And if you are proud to be WHITE, as opposed to being proud of being a certain ethnicity, such as Scotch Irish, Greek, Jewish, Italian, Japanese etc. then I would venture to say, in my humble opinion, that you DO have a racist streak running through you. Feel free to debate me on why you are not racist. If you want my e-mail address in order to respond to that discussion, ask me. You may not like what I am saying, but that is my take on things regarding people who are generally PROUD of their skin pigmentation. What a silly concept.
In anticipation of a response, let me say that African Americans, when they generally speak of being proud to be black, refer to their ethnicity, generally, as originating from Africa. The diaspora of the slave trade wiped out, for many black Americans, their historical and family origins. It isn't the same as saying that you are proud to be white. I find that concept to be racist at its core.
Why are you "proud" of your skin color? Are you proud that you are "white" as opposed to some other shade on the color spectrum?
I know that this discussion is off topic, but perhaps it is time that this topic is discussed. If the moderators think it is too touchy or inflammatory, or too off topic to be spoken about, I have no problem with that at all. Lock the thread then. But I AM calling out the concept of a white person being "proud" of their race to be a racist concept.
That is all.
