Seems like no one is taking custom orders on mics really, at this time.
I have an old Shure 55s body which I am interested in getting revamped (for vocals and looks).
Right now, I'm just looking to having the body chromed.
Anyone happen to know who does quality work?
Chuck Gurney would have been my "go to".... and Mutant Mics is not taking orders.
Greg, would you be interested?????

Take the shell to a chrome plater. No mic builders that I know of do their own chrome plating. Chrome plating is an involved specialty involving nasty chemicals and usually relegated to an industrial part of town. Car builders bring them all kinds of stuff from big bumpers to tiny parts - so they can handle it. But it won't be cheap.

I found these guys by searching plating and pittsburg
I don't know anything about them except what I see on the website but they seem to address the relevant issues.

I don't know for sure, but I DOUBT the mic is steel. Almost all mics of that era were made from cast zinc. That's what shure's other mics like the bullets are made from. Does it attract a magnet? ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

I just checked and it does not seem to attract a magnet. Its probably cast zinc like your saying Greg. Thanks for the local link to Paul's Chrome. I'll give them a call.
