Ramblin' Jack Elliott! Still kickin'

I just learned about this guy from a documentary by his daughter. I love him, yet I don't dislike Dylan any less. From what I learned, Woody Guthrie begat Jack and Jack begat Bob Dylan. Mentorship at its purist and best. Roommates.

The documentary puts a nasty light on Dylan. Thank you! I only had that dark feeling until I researched. Now I understand. Ramblin' Jack does Dylan better only because Dylan is a knockoff. Jack is the original. And he plays harp much better.

Google him on YT. He's an all around entertainer.

EDIT: This video is not the same Jack. Sorry. Sounds like my first gig.

@Jinx - That's why I put him up. It's sad but it's happy more often than not. It's life with all the mentor shit and a musician without a second or third skill. My precocious hat is off to him with all the respect he deserves. That's a ton. He never bent over yet he is kind without being overly humble.

Try that now! Build a house on bar gigs. He hangs with the best because he is one of them.

The harp player in that first video may be named Jack Elliott, but he's not Ramblin' Jack Elliott. I can't tell if you're making a joke, or just didn't notice.

It's pretty ironic you used an example of Ramblin' Jack doing a cover of a Dylan tune to demonstrate that he was more original than Dylan.

Here's an example of Elliott's harmonica work:

Thank you @easyreeder. I'm new to the guy and I stand corrected. Love the story and searched YT for backup. Grabbed the first I found. I stand by my aces over kings.

From Wiki:
Woody Guthrie had the greatest influence on Elliott. Woody's son, Arlo, said that because of Woody's illness and early death, Arlo never really got to know him, but learned his father's songs and performing style from Elliott. Elliott's guitar and his mastery of Guthrie's material had a big impact on Bob Dylan when he lived in Minneapolis. When he reached New York, Dylan was sometimes referred to as the 'son' of Jack Elliott, because Elliott had a way of introducing Dylan's songs with the words: "Here's a song from my son, Bob Dylan." Dylan rose to prominence as a songwriter; Elliott continued as an interpretative troubadour, bringing old songs to new audiences in his idiosyncratic manner. Elliott also influenced Phil Ochs, and played guitar and sang harmony on Ochs' song "Joe Hill" from the Tape from California album. Elliott also discovered Singer-Songwriter Guthrie Thomas, in a bar in Northern California in 1974, bringing Thomas to Hollywood where Thomas' music career began.
