I posted this in another thread but it deserves it's own.
To me Cotton does not fit the style of Chicago players mentioned here often. Nor does he fit the style of modern players many of us are fond of. He plays Cotton style!
Some would say his licks are too repetitive in this song. I think it's awesome, but not sure how many players could pull off playing pretty much the same lick for 5:00 minutes.
Some would say he is sloppy. He is simply loose and playing from the soul.
He plays with jaw dropped and a huge resonator. I think it's required for a big sound with the nuances he plays in 1st position.
Funny that Cotton and Ricci are my two favorites. Not really similar,but something connects the two. Maybe it's the free-wheeling spirit in which they play.
