Great thread, guys. Harp2swing, I LOVE what he's doing in that one-chord groove.

I exchanged emails and CDs with Johhny back in the early 90s. I didn't really like his singing style, to be honest. But I really, really like what he's doing on that one chord vamp. It's bluesy, unpredictable enough not to sound stylized, raw, great tone, in the groove--and he gives the song chance to breathe.

Edited to add: I've added Johnny Hoy to the honorable mention list on this website.

about johnny hoy and the bluefish

Formed in 1991, the band has evolved through many incarnations, three Tone Cool and two self-produced CDs, trips around the world as far as South Africa and mostly the joys of playing a lot of music on Martha's Vineyard where most of them live. The band started out as a four-piece with no piano, became a five-piece for several years, and then returned to a four-piece configuration, this time with no bass, and it's been that way for over 10 years.

One chord groove...now this is a good example of how to play funky - rhythm section and harmonica as well as interplay between the two.

@Frank His wife use to be the bass player.
That situation may have terminated? I don't know
He's never been a good singer. IMHO
That's probably why he sang through his harp mic for years. He's notched out a career for himself so good for him!

Suave shit. Funk infectious groove. I love it and anybody who saw it live wouldn't have a choice. Mercenary attitude.
