I am house watching for my blues fan neighbor and he set out a couple of CDs for me to listen. I am so late to the game but I love playing catchup.
I'll report back on Big John Wrencher. And finally, I gave a listen to J.B. Lenoir. He was only a bug in my ear from Mayall until now. Ignorance was bliss but this is even better.

1847 - Absolutely! He surprises so nicely. His template is of his own making. Gushing aside, I think he's the best I've heard. I'll need to soak a while but I'm pretty sure he's going to wind up in my top 2.

i am kinda bummed. i had the record ...this stuff just kills me but it has been damaged.
i only have.... where you been. but there are so many good songs on that album. i paid good money for it. i have it on a hard drive that will not work on my old computer. if any one has a copy, i would love to have that in itunes. the more you hear him the more you realize ,just how good he really is. ----------

Check out Jerry's "harmonica graveyard"
He plays blues + he aint makin' no money. "That's alright I'm satisfied-I'm gonna do the Blues until I die. Then I might keep doin' the Blues after I die"

Love the tribute and the Juke reference. Notice how he didn't have to take anyone down to raise himself. What a unique voice.

Jerry McCain was awesome. I saw him play the King Biscuit Blues Fest in the late 90's, and he was sounding stellar at about age 70. He played the harp equally well through his nose, bends and all, which was something I've never seen before or since.

Working through some of his tunes w/my student.
Jerry played simply, but his sense of swing is subtle and awesome. I'm learning just from teaching his ideas to the student. ---------- The Iceman

Iceman, out of curiosity what other Jerry McCain tunes have you been working on with your student?
I've been learning Steady this last month and have really been enjoying the triplets. The 4th chorus is sublime; David Barrett says he was the first to really go above the 6th hole there..
