Here's what I wrote on my Facebook page...
Musically, I usually get pegged by cats as a "Rod Piazza guy", but if you really know me you know I am a "Lynwood Slim guy". I have been fortunate to hang out with and get to know some of my musical heroes, but few of them were as warm and genuinely caring as Richard Duran. I am proud to call him my friend and grateful for his friendship and all that he taught me. I'm usually not sentimental enough to use a phrase like "warms my heart" but it does indeed warm my heart to see the outpouring of love and appreciation for him from all over the world. If you look at pictures people are posting you can't help but notice that If he doesn't have a harmonica in his mouth he has a huge smile. I could say much more, but thank you Richard for taking a goofy, lonely 24 year kid from Connecticut under your wing.

Lynwood Slim's passing is truly sad news. I thought he sounded great on his recent album with Igor Prado. Ryan, you were the one who clued me in to what an oustanding and sophisticated bluesman he was. Thank you so much for that.
What a soulful voice he had... he always sounded effortless and smooth. And harmonica chops on par with his vocals. I've enjoyed his records but never got to see him live.
One of my all-time favorites was his cover of Detroit Junior's "Too Poor". Bye Slim, you were appreciated and will be missed.

I enjoyed watching and listening to Lynwood Slim many, many times in Minneapolis, late '70s thru the 80's. When I was first messing around with the harp I would talk to him on breaks and he was always great about helping me out. I can remember asking him what kind of mic he was using, he wrote it down for me: Astatic JT30. He was also the guy who hipped me to playing a C chromatic in the key of D. Great player, great guy.

I love the singing and swing on this clip. The harp tone isn't ideal, but somehow that just doesn't matter. His attitude and swing make the song.

From the exact same session here's Lynwood Slim backing Henry Gray and for my taste showing what I consider to be some of the best harp tone and most tasteful chops in the business. Also notice how Slim is onstage and set up in less than a minute.

Man, it's getting hard to keep up. Thanks to Cadillac Zack for bringing Slim to the Maui Sugar Mill Saloon in Tarzana, Ca. Got to see him do the one and only blues flute break I've ever seen.

What a great player. Great vocalist, too.
Sixty years old seems pretty young to pass. I guess you never know when your ticket is punched, so make sure to do what you love as often as you possibly can.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I know Lynwood Slim and RJ Mischo were good friends and RJ learned some harp techniques from Slim.
