Yesterday was International Blues music day (https://www.facebook.com/internationalbluesmusicday)

How did you celebrate the great gift of blues music to the world?

Our band 'The Howlin dingoes' did a scorching set for the Cairns Blues festival, following 'The Flamin Cane toads'.
Personally, I had way too much fun. I had so much I completely lost myself and messed up several times. I think I nearly passed out.
We had a great response from an awesome crowd and a good time was had by all.

What was came next was way better; Jesse Valach and Blues mountain (I don't know that it should be Jesse Valach AND Blues mountain; he IS a blues mountain).
He and his band blew everyone away, and anyone who thinks the Blues is not alive and well and laments the passing of the old days should check out some of the quality acts out there like Jesse live.

I also have my definitive answer regarding the recent discussion about traditionalism and whether or not being mentored by one of the old greats is essential. This guy is the real deal. A huge maori from New Zealand, he learned his trade from listening and feeling, not from being mentored or immersed in the culture. He kind of shrugged his shoulders when I posed the question. You feel it or you don't. Feeling it makes it real.

He and his band are world class. Blues music is alive and well and being celebrated worldwide.

Thanks, homage and respect to its originators.

I went to see Edie Brickell with Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers. It was not exactly the blues, it was that other American original, Bluegrass.
Paul Simon showed up.

With the exception of Steve Martin, every one of those folks are maestros and SM held his own.

There was a little harmonica.
