Ive been playing with a guitar-player I don't know very well, and he just throws out songs I have never thought about playing. One such is 'can the circle be unbroken'. It occurred to me that for someone looking to become familiar with major pentatonic scale, this is a great song to play with. The melody is easy, and you can play the harp easily from one end to the other. I can't stop playing the thing... What are some other well known songs which work well for major pentatonic?

"I Shot The Sheriff", but I did not shoot the song caller. Also Sukiyaki if you go back that far. Black keys on the piano. Always found them difficult on the harp. Just now working them in.

Runaround by Blues Traveler
I taught several classes that hit on this subject at the Midwest Harmonica Workshop the other week.
Something I tried to enlighten players to was that you have more scale and note choices in 2nd position than just the blues scale. I illustrated that application of this with several songs, but one thing anyone can try is the following:
Jam to a backing track of Little Wing and play the song using only holes 6 and 7 of the harmonica (generally a C harmonica against the track in G).
Another thing to try is playing solos to that song in various scales. I chose to illustrate the major pentatonic, Mixolydian, and blues. ---------- Mike My Website My Harmonica Effects Blog Rock Harmonica Lessons

dickey betts solo on statesburo blues from live at the fillmore the first 12 bars are major the 2 nd 12 bars goes to minor
it looks like they have most of that concert on youtube however it seems they removed that one song funny how that happens, the one thing you look for is missing lol
the song crossroads, claptons solo goes from major to minor. that is a great song to play on the harmonica. ----------
