hi hope this helps I LOVE HARMONIZING-- all the rock bands people remember -had good harmony--ie ea-crosby stills..beatles -get an inexpensive $20 keyboard find the root 3rd 5th and sart the singing line from the 1 3rd and fifth----- http://www.wikihow.com/Harmonize-----record singing off the root then practice finding the harmonys--also when doing a harmony its ok to hit a note that the main singer is singing and bounce back n forth--a great song to hear and make up harmony is Marshall Tucker 'can't u see' try singing above and below main singer--EVENTUALLY EVEN WITH 3PART HARMONY--U HEAR ALL 3 PARTS AND CAN ADJUST YR VOLUME SO AS TO 'ACCOMPANY RATHUR THAN DOMINATE==at first u have to [FIND YOUR STARTING HARMONY NOTE--LEARN YOUR PART ACCAPELLA -THEN PRACTICE WITH THE ORIGINAL 'MAIN' SINGER--block out his voice in yr mind and sing and hear only yr part--u will be to loud at first doing this--but eventually youll be able to blend anD 'ACCOMPANY' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOidNtTFxpA--------https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChZzJuYbfYAtons info on line----------------KEYBOARD --FIND 'YR' STARTING NOTE-- LEARN YR PART--eventually--u will not be thrown off with 2-3 part harmony---ONE OF MY MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ON THE'BLUES CRUISE' WAS AT A JAM THE SINGER ASKED IN A 'PREMADONA TONE' DO U GUYS KNOW 'CANT U SEE' AND CAN U HARMONIZE---I DELIBERATELY INSECURELY MUMBLED YES--iD BEEN DONG THIS SONG FOR YEARS--SO WE HAVE HIS BAND ,MYSELF SINGING BACK UP-----[AND NEXT TO ME SINGING 2ND BACK UP WAS """EARL THOMAS""" A TOURING BLUES AND GOSPEL SINGER--- Earl looked at me and said ' I don't know this song at all-- I told him u sing great low ---I don't---- I sing well Hi' ---- we sing the words'Can't u see"----- u take low I'll take the hi'--u'll get it---WHEN it CAME TO CHORUS- THE LEAD singer GAVE THE DEAR HEADLIGHTS LOOK-- EARL SANG THE LOW -i SANG THE HIGH--MAIN GUY IN MIDDLE'---WE TAGGED it SO WELL-- THE APPLAUSE WARRANTED A SECONd GO ROUND ON THE CHORUS---I had aheart to heart earlier, on the cruise about our ABUSIVE AND PSYCHOTIC PARENTS--we shared some gruesome details and bonded instantly--to pull off a well balanced harmony with him and the 'humbled' lead singer was one of my best moments in playing music in public---nothin like good harmony--BY THE WAY THE 'MAIN GUY' REALLY DID NEED TO BE HUMBLED--I NEVER play guitar, harp or sing in a competive fashion --NEVER EXCEPT-- when someone is not as good as they think they are and or talk extremely condenscendingly to me--that brings out the football player in me--PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PS SORRY FOR THE NEGATIVITY PEACE

Listem. Try. Repeat until you figure it out. Some people have a natural ear for harmony some don't. In blues it isn't used all that much. More common is unison and/or "gang" vocals. "Gang" vocals are most useful in bar blues in that they are usually one line, easy to sing, and encourage the audience to join in.

I am not a singer but I have been encouraged to participate within my comfort zone.

You will know harmony when it happens. The space between your ears will thrum gloriously. I've never been able to duplicate that feeling by singing along with a recording but I can experience it through a mic.

I would suggest working out with a buddy. The less experienced one should hmmmm or ooooh a note and the other should seek that sweet spot. Practice.

CSN truly had it down pat. I didn't appreciate their music when it was fresh and I'm not a big fan now....BUT....I'll bet they had the best feeling, short of sex, when they exercised together.

I was asked once to write the questions for an interview of David Crosby for Dutch national television. Crosby was touring with CPR (David Crosby, Jeff Pevar, and James Raymond, Crosby's son and a whole other story). They were performing new material as well as some CSN&Y and Byrds covers. One of the questions I came up with was how did he feel being related to someone helped with the blend of voices. I referenced the Everlys amongst others. It was quite a trip when the show was broadcast to see David face when that question was asked. His expression went to a wry smile and then he replied, "Yeah, I guess I know a little about harmony."

Here is a clip from that program. I was also there at the shoot. Not remotely connected to the blues but these muthas can play!

got clip of terry magee--this song is sung in octaves ---1 guys starting note is an octave below the other--key of F--[F scale-- F G A Bb C D E]-- first note sung is a D which is thw relative minor of F --If Iwas to figure the rest notes sung they would probably be in the [D scale-- D E F# G A B C#} When he says 'stranger' thats a D note [1 an octave lower-=-on a Bb harp there are 3 D notes each an octave apart--blo 2 then an octave up blo5---octave up blo 8---all D notes tried to embed stuff below --didn't work --very short clips one is terry /mcgee--singing 'stranger here' with starting note sung a "D" an octave apart---the other clip is me singing over F chord the same deal 'an octave apart-- hope this helps--apparently they sing in octaves--not 3rd or fifthor...
