Here is a recent news story that was done on The Smiling With Hope Bakery Program that I started and run at Newark High School. The news anchor who did the story wanted some of my music in it. I had an old harp in my desk and they used some of it. Walter

Thanks! The greatest thing that happened to me was finding this career. It happened at the same time that the music scene was dying. Now I live good, and get to be as creative in my day gig as I am with my music. Most of my peers that stayed with music full time are not living so good today. Walter

here is my top pizza maker tossing a dough just like we do back in NJ/NYC where I learned my trade.

here is a slide show of the program with me doing the soundtrack

That's a tear jerker Walter, very touching - but I am left "smiling with hope"...You are to be commended for such a kind and caring venture you have created - Very nice to see your work being recognized as important and vital to the community and beyond...

I work in a similar field, with the vulnerable population and it is rewarding, I'll get some photos up to share with you and others :)

thanks guys. That is great Frank that you work with a struggling population of people. These people never asked to be born this way and IMO it is our responsibility to provide a meaningful life experience for them because like us, they can never put that together on their own. We can screw up our lives many times in our lifetime with drugs, booze, bad choices, and still come back to live a self sustaining life. My students are born with a terrible hand and never can escape it unless we as a society make it happen.

To be honest I feel lucky to have found a job that pays well that helps people that can never make it on their own. Life is short and I am driven to make their lives have meaning. They are the buddha's of love, trust, forgiveness, joy, and flexibility. I learn more from them they than I ever thought possible. So far 3 of my students are working in competitive jobs and making $10/hr which out here is quite a feat for entry level work. I miss them and our work and this summer is not much fun in many ways. I have my recording studio, pedal my bike, and enjoy the freedom to do whatever. I get paid over the summer but I look forward to getting back to work in late August. I am a driven personality. Doing music full time was my drive for 1/2 my life but now the scene is so bad I have no interest in working to get a gig. I use to play a couple dozen gigs or more in the summer with travel a part of it. Those scenes have all folded and thus this summer leaves a void in my drive hardrive. Getting older in the music scene has meant most of my peers/gig connections are dead or gone on to other things like I have. I am not motivated enough to persue gigs using the net as a tool. I learned in the flesh from the blues greats/living with them and this cyberspace way of surviving in music today is of no interest to me. I am ok with this new way of doing music The way I do my current gig is a great gift because it is just like how it was when I was active in the music scene prior to the net and people came out in numbers in the flesh to support live music. The challenge for me is to do leisure and this is the lesson to learn on my plate this summer. Walter
