Just received a tech 21 Sansamp Blonde v2 on Friday and have been putting it through its paces…I love it! I originally bought it for a PA rig, with the intent of using only two boxes, the blonde and a delay; and looking for portability and ease of setup. I have been testing it out in the clean channel of a 69 twin reverb, I’ve had this amp a long time and have been trying to sell it but with the blonde I am considering using as a gigging amp again. Using the Blonde through this platform is incredible, the tonal possibilities of this emulator are equally as incredible, the EQ is very sensitive and helps shape tone possibilities, you can set the amount of drive and also dial in amp characteristics from clean to blackface to baseman like tones. My intent is to set it to one setting and go but the number of different likable tones keeps me continually changing the character knob which basically is the amp modeling knob. I had been using a DD3 delay but switched to a carbon copy delay as the analog CC seems to compliment the analog blonde and give a very rich tone. I actually found at one point when I was testing at high volume that when the feedback started to build I was able to increase the delay slightly and dial the feedback out. According to Tech 21 the signal is High z in and low z out but you will still need a di or a ¼ inch to plug into board. The box has a speaker emulation button on it that lets you turn off the speaker emulation but I found that some highs are rolled off and I preferred the tone with the emulation turned on. I didn’t like the bypass, it’s buffered and effects tone so if I wanted to run straight through to the amp or board I would consider an AB switch. Over all though I think it’s a fantastic tool and I’m looking forward to trying it in a PA at next practice.
Question to the folk on the forum how do you run your mic volume? I am running my mic at high volume meaning, I’m playing at max level at a quarter of a turn on the mic volume with the possibility of getting more volume if needed, but also the possibility of feedback. The opposite would be to set everything up so that max volume would be reached when the mic was at full volume. It seems the second option would give the element full sound capability…….thoughts?
