Last night I was going to use my Lone Wolf Harp Break into the PA. For the life of me I couldn't get any sound out if it at all. Checked the battery and leads before I left as usual, tested it into my amp and it all worked fine. At the jam however when I turned the pedal on there was no sound at all. When I clicked the pedal off the bypass sound was working perfectly. Back home and tested it again into the amp and it all worked as normal. Anyone got any idea as to why it wouldn't work into the PA when activated? I have used it there a number of times and it's always worked fine before.

With some PA's I needed to run through a Direct box. Not a soundman so I'm not exactly sure why, might be an impedance matching thing.

Whenever I've had that problem with a LW pedal it always turned out I'd connected it back to front. It took 3 repeats before I could believe it was possible I could do something so obviously wrong and not see it. Not saying that's what you did, but it's something I continue to do from time to time. A disconnect in my brain ... 8*\

Rbeetsme - Thanks Rick I'll try that next week.
SuperBee - Hahaha! No I checked for that. It was my first thought :)

In the easy-to-make dumb mistakes department - lots of PA's have TWO 1/4" inputs per channel - one is line in and the other is "insert" - if you plugged into "insert" by mistake - that would do it too. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

Yes indeed it is Greg. I checked that out too. Was in the "line in" all the pad switches off, mute off, etc, etc and still no joy. Yet when I clicked the pedal off it worked fine. Guess it could be an impedance mismatch like Rick says.

Probably not impedance if you have a high impedance mic. The reason I say that is that the pedal puts out a high impedance signal, but does not influence the impedance with bypass, and it worked on bypass.
I would vote for a loose wire in the pedal
hey, this is kind of like car talk!

My money's on an impedance/loading issue. I have been plugging stuff in/out of my LW delay since I saw this thread (don't have a harp break) & in bypass the following input (PA) sees the mic's dc resistance (~1-2K for dynamic/CM/CR), but with the effect engaged the following input sees 1Meg (can't see the mic). That's assuming a similar bypass set up between pedals, which may not be the case (always worth shooting Randy a mail).
Given the various nature of 1/4" inputs on PA's, a Hi-z to Lo-z interface allowing you to use the XLR inputs is probably safest, if you're going to do this with lots of new/different PAs. Do you recall the make/model of the PA Paul?

Sorry Mark. I don't know the make and model. I'll try and find out next week if I remember. I'm going to try it with a DI box next week and see if that works. Interestingly the guitarist used a little preamp pedal (Boss one I think ) into the PA 1/4" line in and had no problems at all with sound.

@Paul "Interestingly the guitarist used a little preamp pedal (Boss one I think ) into the PA 1/4" line in and had no problems at all with sound." The load at the gtr preamp output jack will undoubtedly be lower than your pedal when engaged (*if* my theory is right). Just one of those "impossible to foresee for every combination" situations. ;-) ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

Mark, I suspect your theory is right. I know the landlord of the pub recently changed his PA system and before that I had no problems whatsoever. I'll try the DI Box in line and see how I go on.
