Just found out about this guy. Heard a song on the radio that sounded like Rick Estrin's voice, harp...studio cut. Was surprised to find it wasn't.

It should be Walter T. Higgs and the Shuffle Pigs. Walter was a mainstay in the Austin scene forever and one of my mentors. Great singer and harp player. Ran a blues jam for YEARS!
Anyway, I love him. He's got a CD.

Walter T Higgs. There's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Pretty bad ass player. Walter has a good strong voice and his CD is pretty cool.

The voice sounds a little like Rick but I couldn't mistake his harp for Rick's even if I had night cats crawling into my ear drums, not that its bad, just sounds nothing like him at all, not in tone, phrasing, timing etc, at least not to my ears.

Mooncat:
The recorded song on the radio is the one I was referring to, which is not represented by the youtube clip. (please refer to my original post above).
The recorded harmonica solo and playing on his CD definitely sounds very different than this live clip does.
Grab a copy of his CD and listen for yourself (without night cats in your eardrums), Jason.

Larry , I read the original post, Ill just have to take your word for it as Im not gonna run out and buy this one (not that its bad!), still can't imagine how Walter's harp playing could sound like Rick's any time or anywhere or anyhow, in a box or with a fox… Not too many people swing as hard as Rick. Like I said though, Ill take your word for it. Meow Meow ---------- www.mooncat.org
