For all the flack the harp takes, I can honestly say that playing harp has helped me to understand some of the theory I learned years ago in a more meaningful way. A diatonic instrument will teach you about modes like nothing else can. I would add it to helpful training aids for theory right along with a keyboard.

@scojo: I don't mind being criticized, not at all. If a harmonica player chooses to not learn how to play the chromatic harmonica that's his business. I was speaking as a harmonica player who has benefited greatly by knowing how to play both, that's all.
