I have one mic with a crystal element. Seems weak, but I like it. I keep wondering if it needs a tricked up input jack to plug into. Would a jack with higher resistance to ground be better for such a mic? I feel like I read something about this sometime...

3M minimum to ground at the jack. 5M is what I use. This will fatten you the tone but will not make it much louder, if any. Put the high gain tubes back in the amp for more drive...BN

Thanks. I am just putting a 5f1 together and thought maybe I set a jack up for crystal mic.

Supe, I should rephrase the first sentence. The mic wants to see 3M ohm minimum impedance. Any resistance in parallel with the 3M R will reduce the total load the mic sees. This would include volume pot in the mic. The formula for R's in parallel is 1/1/R1+R2+R3 etc...BN
