Cello can sound pretty cool in the right hands. Rushad Eggleston's for example:

And even:
But just to keep things closer to being on topic:

Rushad is a fungi - that peed on a bird is very entertaining....And the cool "hat" should be used by blues players - somebody needs to steal that wardrobe ideal :)
Cello Beatbox - is this craze beginning to border on the ridiculous... What's next beatbox tuba? kids der curwazy :)

I think the strings are good inspiration for tone on the harmonica. On this piece I was thinking cello.

For some reason cello has become very popular in fiddling circles. We used to have two or three in the San Francisco Scottish fiddlers, now it's something like 15. Players like Rushad, Natalie Haas, and others have really brought the cello out of its "classical shackles." Cool to see someone beatboxing with it - why not? ---------- Winslow Find out about the 2014 Spring Harmonica Collective! When a Cello player occasionally shows up for Slo Jam, Every group wants them to join them complement the usual banjos, mandolins and guitars. The leader picks the groups though, so no fighting over the cello player ensues.

Cello can cover both bass and melody - it's a very flexible instrument. The more recent adaptation of fiddle "chopping" bow techniques to cello makes it a formidable rhythm instrument as well. ---------- Winslow Find out about the 2014 Spring Harmonica Collective! Thanks for posting those videos Winslow, I enjoyed them. I really like the rhythmic sounds he makes while playing. It reminds me of a girl I went to high school with, but she's a viola player.

Nice. She's using a lot of pizzicato (plucking the strings instead of bowing them). Works great for the self-accompaniment she's using for her singing - with some cool rhythmic complexity. A talented and imaginative player.
Viola has always been the ugly duckling of he bowed strings. Even orchestration books make jokes about viola players. Fiddlers have been taking up the 5-string violin, which adds the low C string of the viola to the usual 4 strings of the violin even though the violin's body is really too small to make that string resonate well. However, they won't even think about the viola. SF Scottish fiddlers has a good dozen or more guitarists, over 100 fiddlers, and maybe 20 cellists - a remarkable growth having occurred in the last few years, but no violists at all.

"I fell in love with cello years ago listening to Bach's unaccompanied Cello Suites".
Is that a line from a Bette Midler song, where she falls in love with a bi-sexual bartender named "Cello" while getting drunk in Tijuana alone in a run down strip bar listening to the juke box strangely filled with all things Classical and brings him back to America where they...I'll stop there, I don't want to give the ending away...lets just say the Divine Miss M can get kinky:)
