Why have I never heard this?

Whilst it isn't the greatest harp playing ever, its on a par with Long Train Runnin' and the song is funky as hell!!!!

"the song is funky as hell!"

Hard not be funky doing an Allan Toussaint song with the Meters.

Of course the original is much funkier:

@timeistight:

Ever felt like you've been schooled? I felt that in the first post.

Then you schooled me again....

Thank you!

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a dick. I'm just a big fan of New Orleans funk.

No worries bud! I'm loving the education.

I'm a big Robert Palmer fan from the 80's stuff and I'm a huge funk fan.

This is like mining for gold!

Not sure I agree that the original is funkier. The Robert Palmer version moves more for me.

The Lee Dorsey version has that relaxed feel I love. It also has Ziggy Modeliste on drums whereas Palmer used his own drummer (Simon Phillips) giving it a bit more forward feel. Matter of taste.

Didn't Little Feat do a version, too?

I don't think so. But Lowell George does play on the Robert Palmer version.

Lee Dorsey's song Who's Gonna Help Brother Get Further is one of my favourite things.

My buddies band covers this on the regular. Just the other day I started trying to jam along with it.
