Last October I played in a live concert recording of Ross Hammond's Humanity Suite, which is now available at the major music retailers. The 48 minute jazz suite is also available at the link below, which is best because Ross doesn't have to split any payments with iTunes, Amazon, etc.

The band included Ross on guitar, Kerry Kashiwagi on bass, Dax Compise on drums, Vinny Golia on reeds/flutes, Catherine Sikora on tenor saxophone, and myself on trombone/bass trumpet/euphonium/harmonica. The record is getting great reviews, so pick up a copy and help support independent musicians who are out there grinding......

This is an free jazz/creative 6-movement suite that is partially written out and partially improvised. Standard format solos with rhythm section accompaniment are incorporated at times; other sections are completely open. I believe you can listen to the whole thing at the bandcamp site below -- the blues harp content is in a free section at 9:50 of side two, and at the end of the whole suite starting at around 22:10 of side two. All the harp parts were improvised as part of the live recording, so forgive my clams and sometime over-zealousness.

Thanks for listening !

Oh, a couple of notes:

This suite is being performed live tomorrow May 9 at Luna's Cafe 1414 16th Street in downtown Sacramento CA, as part of the 2014 In The Flow Music Festival, so come out and hear the music live !

The other thing: I have been using harp in various avant garde/free jazz settings for about a year and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. The other musicians always comment on how much they like hearing harmonica in that setting -- whether I play melodically, play chords, or do weird stuff, the sound of the blues harp is always warmly received.
