It's not unheard of to talk of non-diatonic scales -- such as harmonic minor, melodic minor (ascending) or diminished -- having their own "modes". For example, the F lydian dominant scale (F, G, A, B, C, D, Eb, F) can be seen as a "mode" of the C melodic minor scale.

Scales are just sequences of notes.
The most complete example of this is Nicholas Slonimsky's Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns. ---------- The Iceman

7 modes * 12 keys = 84 major, melodic minor , harmonic minor, double harmonic minor, harmonic major = 5 5 * 84 = 420 then add symetrical scales, pentatonics ... and so on
But the purpose of this dvd and books is not to give you numbers but rather to show you how to make music and better understand scales and what you can do with them I present a lot of unusual scales too ---------- David Herzhaft

Isn't there a For Sale thread expressly dedicated for posts like this?
Am I missing something?
