Especially if your a Touring Blues PRO...Playing the little hole in the wall bars goes with the territory.

Iv'e seen the best of the best blues players in tiny bars and then seen them at huge festivals - so these guys and gals can run the gamut of performance situations with grace and dignity...

The best blues performers can adapt quickly and deliver the goods in all live situations, no matter the size of the venue or importance of the show :)

1847, that was an interesting article. Thanks! One thing that struck me was that the venue owners are locked in to making their money via drink sales, rather than ticket sales. More than once in the article there were complaints about audiences not wanting to drink. If that's the case, they need to adapt, IMO. If they are moving towards having established acts instead of unknowns, then they should sell tickets or have a larger cover. They need to understand what the audience is there for.

I agree with the article that it is reasonable to ask for, and expect the band to do a bunch of the marketing. The band knows who their fans are and how to connect to them (or should). The venue should also have a share in marketing through their channels too. A "destination" venue is a draw in itself that can bring new fans to a band. Both sides should expect to be working together on marketing.
