Hi – – I'm going through the Suzuki Harps to show folks (and for them to play) at the spring harp festival on Saturday. One of the harps I encountered is the gold valved Promaster, model 350G-V--they are not cheap! But they sound nice--comb and plates like a valved Hammond, gold plated covers (goldplated on the inside too). Anybody using these?

We will have lots of harps for people to try, including a couple of keys of this model.

I recently saw a Promaster gold in a pawn shop. At the price they were asking, I would certainly buy a new one for a few bucks more if I wanted one. They had a Bluesmaster that was priced over the price of a new one.

I posted up something, but I decided it's of no value so I took it down. Just me having a public whinge about not liking my dinner. If anyone saw it, please understand...it was just my grumps and the harps I mentioned were not the current production. They had some issues but that's no reflection on the current product . I really shouldn't mention my Suzuki experiences as I only ever go for 'bargains'. This strategy naturally leads to a lot of uninspiring experiences.

FWIW, I have a full set of 350's that I half-valved under PT's supervision. Lovely instruments. I see no advantage of having the gold plated model other than vanity. Oh well, I'm a "silver" sort of person anyway.
Thanks,
Michelle

Gold plated mouthpieces are common in higher end brass instruments. Some players say the gold allows your lips to slide across it easier. Most agree is looks good. If it works for a trombone, why not for a harmonica. A trombone mouthpiece is even in the same price range as the MR350, about $70 for silver plate and $120 for gold plate. Given the relative complexity of a harp vs. the brass mouthpiece, I would say the harp is the much better value.

I found that the combination of the gold plated covers, black laquered comb, and Mylar valves made this instrument far more genteel than your normal diatonic. Probably not great for blues, but easy to play chromatically, and mellow!
