I'm rebuilding two Shure 520 Green Bullet mics. (A 520 and a 520DX). Unfortunately the set screws or "Grub Screws" at the rear of the mic that hold the cable in place are missing.

Does anyone perhaps know what size the set screws are, or if it is possible to order replacements from anywhere? (I've tried various hardware stores but so far haven't been able to find anything that fits). Any help much appreciated!

My 520DX was made in Mexico so it might be metric. If not it is 4-40. I don't trust the quality of the set screw in mine so I'll not take it out and measure it. Are the threads in the shell still clearly defined?

If not you can always drill & tap for 6-32. Just don't crank on the set screw during assembly. You can chew aluminum threads without much effort.

It is #6-32. The shell is made out of cast zinc, not aluminum.

@Greg

Thank you for nailing it! His question hung a little too long and I wanted to steer him on a safe course if not the most knowledgeable one.
