A quick scan of his blog shows 6 years of mostly focusing on small amps for harmonica...in addition, Rick has frequently talked about the Mini having a lineout and how to deal with louder stages (even showing the amp unmiked at a blues jam and noting that results aren't typical).
I can't find anything stating he went from a 5w rig not being giggable to it being totally giggable. Unless memory serves me wrong, and I am putting the burden of proof on 1847, Rick, like many (including myself) have talked about using a 5w amp miked/lined out or with a small group setting.
The passive aggressiveness is quite strange. And quotes out of context are even more strange. And heaven forbid an opinion changes over time. Even myself - I love using effects with harp but gravitate more and more to playing only clean (no amps or effects). I wasn't like that ten years ago. ---------- Mike My Website My Harmonica Effects Blog Rock Harmonica Lessons

here is the post stating it is rarely gigable
sorry but a 5-watt amp is not "totally giggable." A 5-watt amp is rarely giggable. If you are sitting in the audience with the amp pointed directly at you at ear level you MIGHT be able to hear it. But nobody else will hear it. It is a practice amp.
Been there many times, it does not work well. New jammers sometimes bring 5-watt amps to the Ziggies jam and they are usually frustrated
he is now totally gigging a five watt amp.

When reading the exact quote from the thread that you've held against him for over a year an a half, and reference over and over (let it go, man), I don't get your stress.
Getting away gigging with a 5w amp is, in fact, a difficult feat. There are a lot of variables to control. However, if you have a harp friendly amp (or better yet, band) through the PA with good monitors, it works a lot of the time.
I did that for 4-5 years until I decided it was just as easy to use pedals instead.
The amp sounds great, IMO. The vast majority of players, let's be honest, are jammers and closet players. A 4x10 isn't the ideal amp (even in all situations for pros). It is good for at home or jamming in a lot of instances.
what I took for the original thread in question (which I think is way over stated), is that you have a lot of variables to deal with. If you want back up and total control, a large amp is a safer be than a small one. IMO, which various from both of you, the best solution is to just play clean to a PA. ;)
If Rick is following this thread, I bet he's smiling as the haters keep bumping it up so newbs come across a killer sounding amp no the cheap...I am sure it helps sales. ---------- Mike My Website My Harmonica Effects Blog Rock Harmonica Lessons

I would love to see a tally of how many times Rick mentioned the amp unsolicited compared to 1847's unsolicited responses about the gigging quality of 5w amps. ---------- Mike My Website My Harmonica Effects Blog Rock Harmonica Lessons

Kingley has a point about the price of shipping to Europe. A distribution agreement with Thomann would solve that problem and access the European market without making the buyer pay shipping and customs duty. It would also fill a gap, since Thomann has taken the VHT Special 6 out of its catalogue due to lack of supply.

As majordomo (I guess you could say), I've taken the unprecedented step of heavily editing this thread, taking my electronic weed-whacker and pruning it back so that it sort of resembles a thread about Ronnie Shellist endorsing the Memphis Mini.
Really, guys. Y'all need to calm down. If you've had a bad experience with the amp, you ARE allowed to share that on this forum and in this thread. But that is not what was going on here. You don't need me to tell you that.
Please behave, because the beatings WILL continue until morale improves.
Edited to add: Nacoran, please pay close attention to this thread. Be on the alert for violations of the forum creed, and let those who violate it know that they've violated it. We haven't booted anybody in a while, but it's possible that we'll need to do that at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Huh, very interesting strategy.....comments in defense of the Memphis mini disappear and the antagonistic ones remain. This thread must be the 8th wonder of the world!!!

Extraordinary. This thread looks quite silly now, though I can't agree Carl, the remaining posts are overwhelmingly positive. Only a couple stating they don't care for endorsements and 1847 calling out Rick as a cynic. And harp ninja looking kind of over the top as his responses to 1847 now are somewhat lacking in context. At least this was honest name calling, largely, with only one real intentional troublemaker specialy created to stir the pot. Adam, seriously 'we haven't booted anyone in a while'? What about poor old MUDHOUND? And humble harper? I understand 1847's gripe, and I agree with mike that it's kind of redundant, but I don't think it needed calling out. The plea that the 'passive aggressive' remarks were just general and not pointed at 1847...that was a joke, right? Anyway. The thread has attracted a lot of attention. I like the idea and I wish rick all the very best with it. And it's great that ronnie shel list is endorsing the amp. Good video. I too enjoyed ronnie's demo of the PA

Hiya everyone and hope you are well,I was at the centre of the 5 watt amp thread that 1847 is mentioning as at that time I had just brought a epiphone valve junior ! Everybody pretty much told me that I'd get blown away by loud guitar and yes it did happen as the new band I'm with think they are playing Wemberly, the bass players got 6 ft stack, over compensating for something in other areas I think. The main point I wish to approach is how does it compair to the EVJ and Vht as they are both excellent harp amps of the same output range. The EVJ does feedback and this may sound a bit retarded but doesn't all amps ? The clip kinda pushes no feedback worries! Is this true? It looks a great amp and if was in the states then It would be on my list but asKingley mentioned its expensive to get owt shipped to blighty! Are their any comparison clips with the EVJ and Vht? Good luck with the project Rick as whether people like the amp or not ,harp players need people like you coming out with fresh products! All the best Mark
