I left my 270 on the window sill...next time I picked it up the comb had cracked right through the second chamber. Hot sun I guess. It's a nailed harp...what are the options for repair? Just send it to Hohner? Im ok working on diatonics, but the chromatic seems like it would be easy to mess up

There are a couple of options but since I believe you are across the pond, go with the easiest and cheapest, first.
Get an epoxy based glue and massage it into the back of the crack with the harp in tact. Let it dry and then play it to see if it helps...
If not, you can take it apart and put some glue in it from the top. I can fix it and if you attempt the repair yourself and mess it up.. It won't cost any extra so you might as well try with the epoxy.
This is really common and it seems to happen at the 2 hole. I suspect there is a nail or something there that causes that.
Email me and I can walk you through this.. ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com

Thanks Greg. I'm at work now but I'll get on to it ASAP. Yes, there is a nail now visible through the back of the comb.

From what I have done in the past to repair cracked 270 combs, and what I have read on Slidemeister since then, DO NOT take the reed plates off to fix a crack! The comb can warp totally out of shape without the plates keeping it straight. Apply glue (as stated above) into the crack on the back of the comb. Then take off the mouthpiece, and carefully apply glue to the crack inside the comb. Don't get any glue on the reeds, reed plates, or wind savers (valves). I had success using wood glue, but epoxy could work, I guess.
Chris Reynolds sells 270 combs, but you would have to drill and bolt. ----------

dougharps is right. You have to leave one of the reed plates on to keep comb from warping.

I bought a 260 replacement comb from Hohner, but have not yet drilled and threaded and such stuff. There is a little too much play in the head of my old drill press and I have split a couple of Marine Band combs, so I am a little nervous about drilling the new $30 comb.
