In this great harp tune by Gary Smith, I'm having some trouble figuring out what notes were played. At the very beginning, I'm not sure if that's the 3 draw or 2 draw. Also at 27 seconds into the song, can someone tell me what those six notes are? And again, at 2:55 into the song, what note is that he's bending like mad and what note does he finally rise up to at 3:15?
Any help or tabs would be much appreciated.
Here's the song;

To me the start sounds like 2 draw on an A harp. There's a little bit of 1 hole in the mix, probably a tongue lift, and a small Ben on the 2 draw.
It's hard to listen and refer back to your post and write my answer but let's see...I think he plays 2 articulated 2 draws, probably a lift to play the 1 then slapped back to articulate the 2 again before a legato or gliss from the 2 to the 1 via the 2 draw bend. If you know what I'm talking about, you know. If you don't, it's kinda hard to explain but I'd go there if needed. After that 1 draw I'd say he slaps back down again to hit the D in 2 draw ie the full step bend.
Nice little opening reminiscent of a guitar riff.

first impression of the phrase at around 27 sec...first statement is like, not really a clean "note" i think its mainly a 3 draw, with a bit of 4 in it, but also flattened a touch...and then there is a slight slur to the F# to E,
after that first note, i would play it like a slide to the F#...the 3draw whole step...i mean starting off a little above the whole step (maybe actually sliding into it from the half step now i listen a little more) and sliding onto it, then blow 3 rather than 2 draw (maybe...its cool either way) ....and the next phrase i think is E, Eb, D, which logically to my way of playing would be 2draw, 2draw half step, 2draw whole step...sounds reall cool. even if my interpretation is not quite what Gary is doing...i like it...i'm going mess with that phrase a little...

and the 2.55 - 3.15 part...to me sounds like 2 draw bending, ending on 2 draw unbent.

very very tricky to tab something like this...i would venture to say impossible, except ive been trained to believe nothing is impossible...and if one did tab it...it would be equally difficult to interpret

anyway...thats my interpretation of what i hear here but i'm ready to be corrected...there is a lot of deep listening could be done. i'd say its chock full of tongue block technique...a study of Dave Barrett material probably good if you wanna play like this...Gary is/was somewhat of a mentor/teacher to David i believe

Here's what I have for the intro lick:

2 2 1 2 2" 1 2"

All draw notes. " denotes full step bend
On the 2nd note he hits it slightly bent at first then brings it up to the E.

At 27 seconds it sounds like 3 and 4 draw together then immediately bend the 3 draw down to the Gb. That's the first "note". Then a full step bend on 3 draw again to 2 draw. And then a nice little three note lick which is simply, 2 draw, 2 draw half step bend, 2 draw full step bend down to the D and hold that for a bit.

At 2:55, that's a 2 draw, full step bend down to the D again, but you have to warble that with your hand. That's what gives the great effect of, "bending like mad".

At 3:15, I think he's just bending up to the E, from the D again. 2 Draw full step bend, releasing up to 2 Draw.

Let me know if that helps.

Thank you so much SuperBee and CWinter for your insight and help. Yes, it's very difficult to tab and interpret but you've given me answers to my questions and from there I can keep at it until I get it right. I really like the intro into this ... all of it right up to the vocals. Thanks again, all.
